Signature Event

To launch the Graduate Into Business Programme for 2011 and promote local entrepreneurship, we invited Bryan Dunlop to explain his motivations in life and how he survived a life changing experience in his youth.

Bryan Dunlop:
Bryan was born in Zambia to Irish parents. His first taste of real success was being selected to row for Ireland in 1980.

Having joined the British Army, he gained a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before winning the opportunity to serve with the elite 2nd Gurkha Rifles. Bryan served with Gurkhas all over the world for six years and this included operational experience. He left the Gurkhas in 1990 and spent a year in Nepal leading climbing, trekking and white water rafting expeditions.

He then took a team of Gurkhas to Africa to work on a diamond mine in Angola. When the mine was overrun by UNITA terrorists, Bryan and his team were taken into captivity. Released after three days and flown to safety in Namibia, Bryan returned to war torn Angola within two days and took his team back with him.

Sharing his experiences about confronting his fears and returning to Angola, Bryan embarked on a career as a motivational coach cultivating ambition, attitude and action in business leaders, entrepreneurs and sports people. His central philosophy is ‘to get what you have never had, you must do what you have never done’.
